Day 1

Arrive at Chengdu

Land at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Overnight in Chengdu.

Altitude – 500m

 

Day 2

Chengdu – Xining – Lhasa (B/L/D)

After breakfast, continue to visit Wenshu Monastery (which has a history of over 1000 years) and explore the WenshuFang Folk and Culture streets.

After lunch, continue to next destination – KuanZhai Alley, a great opportunity to experience the life of old Chengdu. Next, we will be heading to People’s Park, a place which is frequented by locals for playing mahjong, dancing and etc. also, it is a best place to experience the “slow life of Chengdu” by having a cup of authentic green tea, get your ear canals clean and chitchatting with friends.

Transfer to train station after dinner and take a night train to Lhasa.

Day 3

Xining – Lhasa 

Stop and change to Tibet train at Xining Railway station, and continue the journey to Lhasa. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the journey. Meal on train will be at own expenses.

Day 4

Lhasa (L/D)

Arrives at Lhasa Railway station in the morning. Transfer to Hotel.

Free and easy. Rest well and acclimate to high altitude.

*Notes: To prevent altitude sickness, pleases avoid strenuous activities, drink enough water, take adequate rest, avoid smoking and alcohol.

Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 5

Lhasa (B/L/D)

Visit the landmark building of Tibet – Potala Palace, built in the 7th century during the reign of King Songtsen Gambo of Tibet, it is a famous world cultural heritage with its towering majesty and magnificent momentum. Since 17th century, it has been the residence of the Dalai Lama and the winter palace for political and religious affairs.

After lunch, visit Jokhang Temple, which is the center of Tibetan Buddhism. Build in the 7th century, the Buddha in Jokhang temple is a twelve-year-old gold statue of Shakyamuni. The statue was blessed by the Buddha (Shakyamuni) himself is the most sacred to Buddhists.

Day 6

Lhasa – Norbulingka – Sera Monastery – Lhasa  30km (B/L/D)

After breakfast, visit Norbulingka.

After lunch, we’ll depart for Sera Monastery that located at the foothill of Mr. Sara Wuzi. It is one of the three largest temples in Lhasa which has history of over 600 years. There you would have chance to watch a famous activity – Buddhism Debating which is a daily study task for monks.

Next, visit the famous circumambulation named Barkhor street, a holy ritual walk path for pilgrims from around the world, and also the commercial center for locals and tourists. You could enjoy a cup of traditional Tibetan sweet tea at any cozy tea house.

Day 7

Lhasa – Yamdork lake – Nagarze – Gyangtse   266km  (B/L/D)

After breakfast, travels through Qushui Country and Yarlung Zangbo River bridge to Gangbala Pass (at an elevation of 4990m above sea level), enjoy the breathtaking view of Yamdrok lake (one of the three great holiest lakes in Tibet), and view towards Karora Glacier from afar.

Next, visit local Tibetan wool mill, there are some small family-owned and operated workshops by local residents.

Overnight in Gyangtse.

Day 8

Gyantse – Lhatze – Tingri   330km (B/L/D)

After breakfast, visit Gyantse Dzong (Gyantse fortress), one of the well-preserve ruins in Tibet, it was the administrative office for successive local governments and famous for its heroic history of resistance against British invasion.

Next, depart for Bailang County, knows as “the granary of Tibet”, mainly developed with agriculture. Visit Bailang County vegetables and fruits farm.

Overnight in Tingri.

Day 9

Tingri – Rongbuk Monastery (nearby Everest Base Camp)   360km (B/L/D)

Today will be heading to Rongbuk Monastery, listed as the highest monastery in the world, location near Mt. Everest. It was built in 1899 and founded by Ngawang Tenzin (an eminent monk of Nying Sect). Several hundred of monks and nuns once lived there.

Rongbuk Monastery is one of the perfect sites to view Mt. Everest.

*Notes: Everest Base Camp has been closed to tourists in order to protect the environment. At the moment, tourists will stay overnight in the guesthouse nearby Rongbuk Monastery.

Day 10

Rongbuk Monastery – Tingri – Shigatse   360km (B/L/D)

Return to Shigatse and visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in the afternoon.

Tashilhunpo Monastery is one of the siz monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, and the seat to Panchen Lama.

You may worship the world’s largest gold bronze Buddha Maitreya, then pay homage to the Panchen Lama’s pagoda.

Overnight in Shigatse.

Altitude – 3860m

 

Day 11

Shigatse – Yangbajing – DamXiong   256km (B/L/D)

Along the way, enjoy the view of the Nyenchen Tanglha Snow Mountain, grassland pastures, and herds of yaks and sheep.

Arrive in Damxiong to check in hotel in the evening.

 

Day 12

Damxiong – Namtso Lake – Lhasa   378km (B/L/D)

Today we will be heading to Namtso Lake, one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet that located at the foot of Mr. Nyenchen Tanglha.

Namtso Lake is the second largest lake in Tibet and the third largest saltwater in China. In Tibetan, Namtso means “heavenly lake”.

Return to Lhasa. Leisure at your own in the evening.

Lhasa – Chengdu – Home sweet home
